A tragic crash in Texas, US, killed three members of a family as they returned from a Christmas party. A vehicle driven by an intoxicated woman collided with their car, killing 26-year-old Diego Pena Jr., his 27-year-old wife Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, and their 5-year-old daughter, Camila Pena.
The sole survivor of the crash was the couple’s three-year-old son, Dieguito. The accident occurred at 2 am on Saturday while the family’s vehicle was travelling on a Texas highway.
Police said 27-year-old Majesty Faith Lee caused the crash. Lee was under the influence of alcohol when she drove into oncoming traffic. Following her arrest, she is being held at Fort Bend County Jail with bail set at $1,050,000.
Mother and daughter died instantly at the scene of the accident, while the 26-year-old father succumbed to his severe injuries at the hospital to which he was transferred.
Dieguito, who was orphaned instantly, remains hospitalised and is expected to undergo surgery to treat his injuries.
“This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly life can change when driving under the influence and why it is so important to make responsible choices when driving,” Sheriff Eric Fagan stated.
