Peyia coastal project secures spot in major European tour packages

The Peyia–Kissonerga coastline is set to become home to the longest coastal boardwalk in Cyprus within the next 12 months, a project officials say will fundamentally transform the tourism product of the Akamas Municipality.

Spanning 14 kilometres from the Potima Marina area to the Agios Georgios harbour in Peyia, the €2.5 million urban development is scheduled for full completion in 2026. The project has already gained significant traction internationally, with major European tour operators including the path in their 2025 promotional packages for the Paphos district.

According to Akamas Mayor Marinos Lambrou, the first phase—a two-kilometre stretch inaugurated by President Nikos Christodoulides in 2024—is already attracting hundreds of residents and visitors daily. This initial section features an amphitheatre, an outdoor gymnasium, a basketball court, and children’s play areas, positioning the site as a hub for both recreation and exercise.

“This is a very important project that will upgrade the Akamas Municipality,” Lambrou stated, noting that the development aligns with the district’s shift towards sustainable and “alternative” tourism models, such as environmental, athletic, and hiking tours.

Construction is currently proceeding at a rapid pace to meet the 12-month delivery window, aiming to offer an uninterrupted seaside route that ranks as one of the most significant environmental landmarks in the Republic.
